Whether it’s daily chores or weekly, monthly or annual household chores, we never completely escape housework. There’s always a time when you have to get out the sponge and your good old baking soda to tackle cleaning all the surfaces in the house. However, some tasks are not necessarily useful and even constitute a waste of time. To save some valuable time for other activities, here are the unnecessary household chores you can ditch today or do less often while still keeping your home clean!
1) Rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher
This habit is not only useless, but also counterproductive. In fact, the cleaning products used in this household appliance work with enzymes that cling to dirt, thus maximizing the cleaning of dishes. By rinsing the dishes, you therefore reduce the effectiveness of your cleaning product in addition to wasting water unnecessarily. Just scrape up any leftover food into the trash and let your dishwasher do the rest!
2) Wipe clean dishes
After you’ve finished washing the dishes, do you grab a cloth straight away and start wiping them? What if instead, you just let the dishes air dry? The water goes like this evaporate alone and all you have to do is tidy up! In addition, our kitchen rags are real nests of bacteria, their humidity favoring the rapid development of microbes. So, you might as well save these few minutes of your time for something elseā¦
3) Dust every day and everywhere
Unless you are allergic to it, it is not useful to dust every day. A few precautions to delay the rapid return of dust will be more than enough to keep furniture clean for longer. For example, you can try to limit trinkets, place books at the edge of the shelf to limit dusty deposits and put two doormats (one outside and one inside to catch as much dust as possible). Also limit rugs and carpets as much as possible, which are excellent dust traps.
4) Vacuum or mop everywhere
Unless you have a baby or child who spends a lot of time on the floor or, once again, in case of allergies, but also if you have animals that lose a lot of hair, it is not necessarily useful to pass vacuuming and mopping everywhere and every day. We therefore advise you above all to reserve your regular efforts for most requested partsespecially the living room or the entrance. And of course, that doesn’t stop you from making a weekly visit to all the rooms and areas where dust doesn’t necessarily have time to accumulate anyway (under the coffee table, etc.).
However, if you take off your shoes before entering the houseyou will already eliminate a lot of the pollen and dirt that could otherwise easily find their way inside the house.
5) Ironing all things
Ironing things is a must for some workers who must display impeccable work attire. However, many people have given up ironing when they didn’t have to. To help you, do not hesitate to choose clothes made from wrinkle-resistant materials. This is for example the case of lyocell, wool, denim or even permapress which take few creases. For all clothes that may wrinkle, you can also consider drying them on a hanger. So they lose their creases as they dry and then all you have to do is put them in the closet! Stretching them well when they come out of the washing machine (or dryer), as well as spreading and folding them well, also plays a key role.
