2 surprising techniques for removing stains from carpet

Save it for later!

Some time ago, we shared with you tips for taking care of a shaggy carpet. It was an opportunity to remember how much we love carpets, but also how much we hate cleaning them. The whole family wanders around and settles there and spots of more or less mysterious origin always end up appearing there. The problem is that we never really know how to remove them and in the end, we do nothing (or we do anything and it becomes even worse). This is why we are going to give you two surprising cleaning techniques. Choose based on what you have at home and off you go!

The iron technique

What you need:

  • water
  • White vinegar
  • An empty, clean spray bottle
  • A rag
  • An iron

The steps:

1) Make a mixture of two parts water to one part vinegar.

2) Pour everything into your bottle. And spray this solution on the stain.

3) Place a damp cloth on the stain.

4) Place your iron (steam program) on it for 30 seconds then remove. If this tip did not work perfectly on the first pass, do not hesitate to perfect it by following the same steps.

Before/after:

Note that it is better to test this tip on a small visible part of the carpet before, some hairs may not tolerate steam (especially synthetic hairs).

The vacuum cleaner technique

What you need:

  • Paper towel
  • Eau
  • Towel
  • Vacuum cleaner

The steps:

1) Start by blotting the stain as much as possible with paper towels if it is still damp. This technique works best on these types of stains.

2) Soak the stain with a little water.

3) Place your (dry) towel on top and fold it on itself to have a double thickness.

4) Vacuum the stain for a few moments through the towel using the vacuum cleaner. If the stain is still visible a little, add water and start again until the result is perfect.
