We like to have curtains for the decorative side and it can also be useful to gain privacy, reinforce the darkness in the bedroom and insulate the room a little better. But once they are installed, we tend to forget about them and leave them “in their own juice”. Sometimes we remember that they are there and that they too need to be taken care of from time to time! This often results in a simple trip to the machine (always following the label recommendations) before reinstalling them… and forgetting about them again until the next time! But with these three tips, you will love maintaining them to find them sparkling clean.
1) Bicarbonate and white vinegar when machine washing
When washing in the machine (low temperature is best), add a glass of baking soda to the drum and another glass of vinegar, this time to the compartment dedicated to fabric softener. Start the machine! Your curtains will be impeccable.
2) White vinegar for enhanced colors
To revive the colors of your curtains, fill a basin with a liter of white vinegar and leave your curtains to soak for a good two hours. After this vinegary swim, you will need to wring them out well and you can place a towel in the center and wrap them around to absorb as much moisture as possible before replacing them.
3) Percarbonate to whiten them
Simply add a glass of percarbonate to the machine before running it on high heat.
Two important things:
- If you don’t want your curtains to have wrinkles, dry them on their rod.
- Don’t hang clean curtains against a dirty window… it would be a shame to ruin your efforts! While the curtain is in the machine, wash the window panes and tracks.
