3 tips for effectively cleaning the soleplate of your iron

Save it for later!

Is the soleplate of your iron starting to turn black from burning? This sign of wear can also sometimes be accompanied by rust, as well as scratches and leave brown stains on textiles. And what’s more, all irons can also develop limescale residue over time if you use tap water instead of demineralized water. This can then affect the steam flow of a steam generator or steam iron, as scale can block the holes. This is normal, but know that there is no point in buying one or going straight to the dry cleaners. After all, this iron works very well! No, you just have to clean it a little (and quickly, because these clothes won’t remove the wrinkles on their own!). And for that, we have two/three natural and effective tips for you! Like new we tell you. Here’s how to clean the dirty soleplate of the iron.

1 – Lemon, ideal for cleaning the soleplate of the iron

Everyone has lemon at home. All you need to do here is soak a cloth or microfiber wipe in lemon juice, then rub the soleplate of your iron and then wipe with a soft dry cloth. Grandma sometimes even uses half a lemon directly as a sponge! Your iron will be like new.

2 – Marseille soap

We no longer present Marseille soap. The real one huh! The procedure here is the same as with the lemon. Do not hesitate to rub the soleplate of the iron directly with the soap, then wipe with a soft cloth.

3 – White vinegar

Very effective cleaner and descaler, it is the number 1 miracle ingredient! Soak a cloth in white vinegar then gently rub the soleplate of your iron to clean it. You can also use a cotton swab to clean the scale in the holes and fine-tune the cleaning. Then wipe with a soft, dry cloth. And there you have it! If your small household appliance needs a good descaling, you will probably need to add vinegar directly into its water tank. This procedure is explained in detail here.
