4 economical and effective fabric softeners prepared at home

Save it for later!

According to some, fabric softener doesn’t serve much purpose other than adding an extra product to your routine and incurring unnecessary expenses. However, it can be very useful against tartar that gets stuck on clothes. Because of it, the latter are less soft, their color is less vibrant, they become rough, or sometimes really rigid (enough to have the same approach as Robocop). Here are softening products that will take care of your clothes without it being a thorn in your budget!

Whether you are addicted to your good old Ariel laundry detergent at a low price that you trust (can be found on maison-et-beaute with other good deals) or your homemade laundry detergent recipe that you never put down, these fabric softeners will satisfy all your expectations!

1) Simple: just white vinegar!

Don’t worry, it doesn’t leave a bad smell on the laundry! It will simply make it soft and fluffy while combating static electricity on clothes. If your skin is sensitive or prone to various reactions, this solution without perfume, essential oil or aggressive product is for you.

2) Vinegar, but with its little extra pleasant smell

If using only vinegar isn’t enough for you and you want to add a touch of pleasant scent as well, you can do so by mixing 1/2 white vinegar, 1/2 water, 50 drops of essential oil from your choice, but not irritating like cinnamon could be (the choice is wide: lavender, grapefruit, lemongrass… don’t hesitate to test the essential oil to see if you and your family have a reaction)

3) If you really like having laundry that smells good, mix vinegar and conditioner!

You can use any conditioner…even the cheapest one you can find! The fragrance will be more powerful than in previous solutions while remaining effective and economical. To prepare it, dilute 230 ml of conditioner in 700 ml of hot water. Mix very carefully then add the vinegar: 350 ml to start then adjust by adding more if necessary (the results depend on the texture and formula of the conditioner used, so there is no universal recipe here and you will have to work more on the drum).

4) To dissolve scale by softening laundry and protecting the washing machine from deposits

To dissolve scale, simply use acetic acid from household white vinegar and citric acid found in organic stores or DIY stores. To obtain one liter of softener, you must dissolve 40 g of citric acid in 600 ml of water. Then add 300 ml of vinegar little by little and shake everything. Finish by adding 40 drops of a non-irritating or allergenic essential oil for your family for the smell (the choice is wide: lavender, grapefruit, lemongrass, etc.).
