4 tips for dusting your decorative objects with ease

Save it for later!

Between the various trinkets purchased while traveling, the statuettes, the lamps, the grandmother’s clock and other various frames… decorative objects quickly pile up… and accumulate dirt! Some would say that the solution is obvious: remain minimalist by reducing the details and the superfluous, but it is also all these little things that make you feel at home with decorations that bring a little warmth and of personalization. So to dust them without risking damaging them, follow these few tips!

1) Make good decorative choices

If not buying decor isn’t an option for you, you can still make sure that your choices aren’t too difficult to maintain in the future. Some materials are very pretty, but may require special care that you may not be able to provide later. Light colors can also quickly mark with dust, humidity and cigarettes and complicated objects with multiple nooks or grooves will give you more work! On the contrary, a photo on canvas with myposter for example is a beautiful decorative object since it can be personalized to your taste (format, model, photo, etc.), trendy and very original, but also easy to dust off thanks to its quality canvas, and this, at a low price… enough to nicely perfect your decoration without any hassle when it comes to cleaning!

2) Good habits to adopt

  • Clean your trinkets regularly, because it is better to remove a little dust rather than having to remove a large layer of dirt that has become encrusted over time!
  • Ventilate your home every day for at least 10 minutes morning and evening to cleanse it of anything that pollutes the air and tarnishes objects. Do not overuse it in a polluted environment (for example if you live in a city), because the air also carries dust.
  • Always start with the top shelves and work your way down little by little. And on each object, proceed in the same way! Dust falls as the laws of physics dictate, so you might as well optimize the time spent dusting by being organized and methodical.

3) Use the right tools to do a good cleaning

The adhesive roller:

Yes, we’re talking about the one you use on your clothes to remove the hairs stuck to them! You can also use it on a rather flat surface such as a lampshade to catch all the dirt in a single gesture.

The microfiber cloth or glove:

Microfiber has an anti-static effect that helps trap dust rather than just moving it around like other cleaning tools would. Before dusting, you can dampen it a little and simply put it in the washing machine afterwards. The duster, a great classic, is ideal for really very delicate objects.

With old tights:

The mesh of the tights acts like a microfiber cloth! This is a very effective solution against dust and allows you to reuse holey tights that would otherwise have ended up in the trash. Cut them off at calf level and slip them over your hand for added convenience. And you can do the same with a soft sock!

With a toothbrush or paintbrush

If you have an eye for detail, this is just what you need to get to every nook and cranny! In addition, a brush will allow you to dust off your candlesticks and lighting fixtures.

4) To prevent dust from returning too quickly

Soak your cloth with a well-stirred solution consisting of a spoonful of glycerin and a liter of hot water. This will capture the dust in the cloth and prevent it from returning unexpectedly!
