Essential oil remedies for canker sores are good, but can we prevent the appearance of these painful ulcerations?

Although canker sores can be caused by a variety of factors and are not always entirely preventable (especially if there is an underlying illness), their frequency and severity can be reduced by taking certain precautions.

First of all, make sure to adopt a balanced diet. Indeed, a deficiency of vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin B12, iron, or folic acid, can predispose to mouth ulcers. Consume fruits, vegetables, whole grains and proteins to ensure sufficient nutritional intake. Make sure to drink enough water to maintain good hydration of the oral mucosa. Moreover, avoid irritating foods that can trigger canker sores or make them worse. Depending on the person, this is the case, for example, with acidic foods (such as citrus fruits and tomatoes), spicy or rough foods (such as chips and nuts) which can irritate the oral mucosa.

Besides food, stress and anxiety can also promote canker sores. So practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises to reduce stress. Maintaining good oral hygiene is also important. So, brush your teeth regularly with a soft toothbrush and use toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate, which can be irritating. Overall, avoid irritating products, especially oral care products containing alcohol or other irritants and which can aggravate canker sores. Opt for gentle, alcohol-free products here. Also be sure to floss and rinse with a mild mouthwash.

Finally, it is necessary limit oral trauma. Be careful when chewing and avoid biting your cheeks or lips, which can cause lesions and encourage the appearance of canker sores.
