How to clean and take care of a wooden floor to keep it in good condition?

To keep a wooden floor in good condition, it is essential to clean and maintain it regularly by following several well-established steps. Start with regular dusting and frequent sweeping. So use a soft broom or vacuum cleaner with a suitable brush to remove dust, dirt and abrasive particles that could scratch the wood. Ideally, do it several times a week, or even daily, especially in high traffic areas.

When it comes to cleaning, use a gentle cleaning maintenance product specially designed for wooden floors or a home solutionlukewarm water and black soap (or Marseille soap or even white vinegar in a small quantity). Next, lightly damp a mop or microfiber cloth and wipe it across the floor. Make sure to do not wet the wood too much and do not wash with water, as this may cause swelling, deformation and damage. Excess water can seep into joints where it can macerate and mold, but also leave water stains that are difficult to remove.

Avoid products that damage wood

Above all, avoid harsh chemicals or harsh detergents which will damage the floor. To preserve the quality and appearance of your wooden floor, avoid universal household products or those containing ammonia, bleach or strong solvents which can degrade the protective finish of the wood and make it more vulnerable to wear and stains. THE abrasive productssuch as scouring powders or scrapers, can scratch the surface of the wood, damage the varnish and create micro-scratches where dirt can become embedded.

That’s not all! Although natural, pine oil can actually leave a sticky residue on the wood and attract dust, which can make the floor more difficult to clean in the long term and slippery. It is therefore better not to use it too regularly. Finally, the same goes for using a polish or wax not specifically formulated for wood.

In addition…

Place carpet in high traffic areas and felt pads under furniture legs to avoid scratches. Your neighbors will also appreciate the gesture! Once or twice a year, also apply a wax or polish adapted to the type of floor to nourish the wood and restore its shine. This also helps boost protection against moisture. If the floor shows signs of significant wear, consider sanding and refinishing it to restore its original appearance.

With regular care and sanding if the damage is already there, your wooden floor can look beautiful and in good condition for years. This will allow you to maintain your parquet floor and take care of your wooden furniture easily and naturally.
