When it is cold, the skin is less hydrated and feels more easily attacked by external aggressions! And unfortunately, this doesn’t just apply to dry skin anymore. Any skin type can experience this tightness, itching and discomfort linked to dehydration. Fine lines and wrinkles can also deepen more easily. And in these moments, a good day and night cream and a serum with hyaluronic acid are not always enough to combat dryness. Of course, using good moisturizers is important to combat this effect, but a few reflexes can help you avoid these inconveniences which leave the skin uncomfortable and unattractive. Here are our 5 basic tips to prevent your skin from ending up in a sorry state. With these tips to combat dry skin in winter, your skin will be less sensitive to the cold.
And if you suffer from scabs or redness, check out our natural remedies here. Soft and less rough skin guaranteed!
1) Use an air humidifier for your dehydrated skin
Drought is largely linked to the air which is not only cold, but also extremely dry due to heating! This is why you should avoid turning up the heating too much, especially at night. Keeping an air humidifier in your bedroom or the place in your home where you spend the most time helps maintain a certain air quality, which is good for your skin. The latter thus remains flexible! In addition to its aesthetic utility, it is also a pleasant tool at night if you snore, your nose bleeds often or you are sick (in case of sinusitis, cold or other illness affecting the respiratory tract).
2) Remember to stay hydrated to avoid dry skin when it’s cold
During the summer, we drink more easily, because we feel the need for it more and we know that we lose a lot of water through sweating. However, in winter too you have to stay hydrated and this also allows you to hydrate your skin from the inside. This is how we avoid dry skin and the appearance of flaking on the nose or forehead. Water is good for your entire body and your skin, which is poorly hydrated due to the cold, is very, very thirsty!
3) Protect your dry skin from the cold
If you don’t want your skin to suffer from the cold, protect it well when you go out! Don’t skimp on the issue of paraphernalia: gloves, scarf and why not an adorable hat (or the classic beanie) can be used. This will allow your dry skin when it is very cold to maintain its elasticity.
4) We nourish the skin at the right time
The best time to apply your body or face cream is right after showering or bathing (when the skin is still a bit damp). It will then be able to better retain the hydration that you provide it during the massage treatment. We advise you to dry yourself by dabbing the skin with the towel then proceed to the application. Here you can use for example shea butter, aloe vera or a moisturizing cream. There is no need to necessarily take a super-fatty moisturizer! Choose a product that suits your needs. Apply a few drops of vegetable oil to the surface of the skin will then help seal in this hydration (argan oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, etc.). This will create a protective barrier around the skin’s hydrolipidic film.
5) Don’t forget the sun protection at the bottom of a drawer!
Skin hydration is good, but it’s not enough! The sun never does the skin any favors, not even in winter when it can still have negative and aggressive effects. Generally speaking, protecting your skin from the sun all year round protects it from skin aging. Furthermore, contrary to what one might think, regions which lack sunshine and which are characterized by grayness are regions where there are often a lot of melanomas. Actually, even if there are clouds, harmful rays pass through them.
Furthermore, snow and winter sports enthusiasts were unable to miss the dazzling effects linked to the reflection of the sun’s rays on this white surface…like snow! Good sunglasses and high protection cream are essential even if it is cold to protect the skin!
