6 Techniques for Maintaining Stainless Steel You May Not Know About

Save it for later!

Stainless steel is still very popular for its modern appearance on our household appliances. We also find it in our sinks and on some of our stoves and it is therefore part of the landscape. Although we love its shiny appearance, this is also one of its worst faults, because it never fails to find itself studded with stains and fingerprints at the slightest opportunity. Today we give you 6 surprising techniques to maintain it. It’s up to you to choose the method that best meets your expectations and especially the one for which you are equipped!

1) Vinegar and olive oil: the winning duo

We have already given you details on a very similar method. Wipe with a soft cloth (or old t-shirt) after spraying a little vinegar on the area to be treated. Then go over with a cloth soaked in olive oil, following the direction of the grain. Using a clean, dry cloth, polish the steel gently. This will leave a film thin enough to not look greasy and will prevent stains from coming back too quickly.

2) If you have a bottle of WD-40 in the garage, it may come in handy!

Spray a little and wipe with a soft microfiber cloth. Take your time and don’t use too much product. There won’t be a stain left.

3) Flour for sparkling sinks

Flour can polish steel. Start by cleaning everything with hot soapy water. Rinse and dry carefully before pouring in the flour (if it is not dry, it will stick and form clumps). Sprinkle flour over the entire surface and buff gently with a soft cloth or paper towel. This will remove small grooves and grime. Then wipe with a damp cloth and repeat if necessary.

4) A paste against water stains

Mix 60ml vinegar, 120g baking soda, 15ml lemon juice and 15ml olive oil to form a paste. Rub the steel gently using a soft cloth. Draw small circles with your cloth. Leave on for 10 minutes and wipe with a clean cloth.

5) Coconut oil for more shine

Pick up a tiny bit of material with a soft cloth and buff gently in the direction of the grain.

6) Against burning on a pan

Rubbing the burnt stain with a sponge and baking soda is often enough to make the pan look like new again. If not, boil a mixture of water and vinegar (80% water and 20% vinegar). Let it boil for a minute before discarding the mixture and sprinkling with baking soda. Rub again.
