However, it doesn’t really make you want to sleep in it. However, we generally don’t know how to clean a mattress. No worries: Grandma gives you the solutions you’ve been waiting for to remove common stains on a mattress such as pee, blood or even perspiration.

Of course, we invite you to play the prevention card with a mattress pad! However, this will not always be enough if it is not waterproof enough. And if your mattress has a removable cover when purchased, give it a good cleaning once a year.

1) Solutions that generally work well against stains on a mattress

You can use many products against stains on a mattress as long as you let them act a little and rub well before rinsing. First of all, there is the white vinegar to use pure, with the addition of a few drops of lemon or tea tree essential oil or diluted in water with a few drops of dishwashing detergent. Furthermore, a dry steam cleaner might do the trick if you have one! Otherwise, the solution remains Marseille soap, black soap or 90° alcohol. Same thing for the citron which can notably remove rust or ink. Finally, a paste made from baking soda and hydrogen peroxide will be very effective and whitening on all stains.

And against bad odors, sprinkle bicarbonate with essential oil and vacuum after a short time. This technique is well known to those who use ammonia on stubborn stains, because it doesn’t smell very good!

2) And to dry the mattress?

There is no question of treating a stain and putting clean sheets on a mattress that is still damp after cleaning… Discomfort guaranteed. First of all, know that drying in the sun is always a plus for restore its shine to the white fabric of the mattress. So think about it if the temperatures are suitable. Otherwise, absorbent towels, paper towels or a hair dryer (cold air) are your best options for faster drying!

3) Against urine stains

If possible, it is better to make a rinse with warm water on a fresh stain and dry well with paper towels or blow dry with a hairdryer to remove as much moisture as possible. However, if this is not possible, you can also use household alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. On an old, very encrusted stain, there is nothing better than paste made from hydrogen peroxide, bicarbonate and dishwashing detergent.
