6 tips for cleaning it without leaving marks

Save it for later!

Less massive and dark than wooden tables, glass tables bring a particularly elegant and bright effect to a room. It is therefore the ideal solution to avoid further darkening a dark room, but also to furnish a small space, visibly giving a more spacious and airy result. In addition, unlike the wooden table, the glass table absorbs liquids and stains less. Despite this, the question of its maintenance remains thorny, because this material is more prone to scratches and fingerprints. So, how do you clean a glass table effectively and without leaving streaks? Grandma explains how to keep it perfectly clean every day!

1) Ban products that can damage glass

Certain products can damage your glass table. As with washing windows, ban abrasive sponges or scouring pads which can leave scratches. In addition, it is better to limit fatty household products, but also white spirit and turpentine which can irreparably damage the glass part of your furniture. Finally, limit the use of paper towels which leave marks and paper residue on all glass surfaces in the house.

2) How to maintain the glass table on a daily basis

To clean a glass table after each use or meal, you can simply use a non-abrasive sponge or a soft, lint-free cloth (such as a microfiber cloth), both previously moistened. To do this, soak them with distilled water. Indeed, tap water may contain limescale which leaves white marks on the glass. Then, all you have to do is make circular movements to remove the dirt.

3) Use newspaper as for windows

The crumpled and dampened newspaper that you already use for your windows and mirrors will prove just as effective on your glass table. Simply rub gently in small circles to get a clean, shiny table effortlessly.

4) Simply take out your dishwashing liquid!

If you have spilled wine, grease or coffee on your dining table, use a damp cloth soaked in a few drops of dishwashing liquid (or black soap) to clean the traces. Once the stains are removed, rinse the table and use a clean, dry cloth to dry it. A pass of newspaper in a ball can then remove any last traces.

5) Vinegar or lemon for impeccable glass

White vinegar is both a cleaning product and cleaner, degreaser, disinfectant and descaler. Pure or diluted on a damp cloth, this multi-use product is perfect for restoring shine to your glass table. Alternatively, you can also replace it with lemon which has the advantage of having the same virtues, but with a better smell. All you have to do here is cut this citrus fruit in half and use it like a sponge. Then leave it on and rinse with clean water.

In both cases, you will need to finish cleaning with drying with a dry cloth and possibly using the newspaper technique to remove the last traces.

6) Household alcohol for persistent stains on a glass table

To remove heavy dirt or stubborn stains (paint, glue, ink, etc.), the cleaning products suggested above may not be enough. In this case, use a few drops of household alcohol on a damp cloth instead. Please note, wearing gloves is recommended when using this product.
