As if soap scum and stubborn mold stains weren’t enough, you also have to put up with the marks left by hard water in the bathroom. From the walls to the taps to the tray, the scale leaves whitish traces on all the surfaces of the shower and they are sometimes so encrusted that we no longer know how to descale and scrub it all. To help you, we have listed household products that will work wonders on limescale. With our grandmother’s fashion advice, your shower cubicle and bathtub will regain their former glory.

1) White vinegar, the best descaler on the market

White vinegar is the reference for ecological anti-limescale cleaning products. Simply heat it slightly, apply it to the areas to be treated, leave it on and rinse it with clean water after taking care to rub. All you have to do is dry the treated surfaces with a clean soft cloth. As for the shower head, you can soak it in a salad bowl or freezer bag filled with equal parts hot water and vinegar. Leave it to act and brush off the last traces to make it like new.

Note, however, that vinegar can be abrasive on porous surfaces like stone or marble. And if its smell disgusts you, replace it with lemon juice or even a lemon cut in half and used as a sponge. This citrus fruit has in fact the same descaling power !

2) The magic sponge for impeccable windows

The magic sponge is an all-purpose product which can be used in particular to remove stains from plastic, tiled or glass shower walls. This magic eraser can also be used to clean dirt on the shower head without needing to disassemble it. However, remember to rinse it well after removing the dirt.

3) Clay stone against tartar in the shower

A paste made from water and baking soda will be the secret weapon to get rid of white spots linked to limescale build-up. Simply apply it to the areas to be cleaned and leave on before rubbing and rinsing. So the simplest solutions are sometimes the best…

5) Citric acid for difficult stains

In terms of effectiveness, citric acid is still a little higher than sodium bicarbonate. Very powerful, this natural cleaning product has a radical anti-limescale power which will restore the cleanliness of your bathroom, regardless of its level of dirt. It can be used here to replace bicarbonate, always in paste form, for the treatment of scaled surfaces. Remember to wear gloves before mixing and cleaning. After application, leave for an hour before rubbing and rinsing. Thanks to this product, your shower will be like new. Magic, we tell you!

6) Soda crystals against shower scale

Whether in the toilet or the bathroom sink, you can use soda crystals without worry. Ecological and very effective, they should be mixed with hot water before use. Then, apply this liquid to the surfaces to be treated and leave for a little before rinsing with clean water. Be careful, remember to wear gloves before handling them!

And in terms of accessories, what do we opt for?

First of all, remember to have a toothbrush for scrubbing tile joints and other surfaces that are difficult to reach with a microfiber cloth or sponge. Furthermore, note that if you have a steam cleanerit can be very useful here for cleaning tiles, shower trays or even earthenware. Simply turn it to maximum and use it to spray the surfaces to be treated. However, avoid using it on a chrome surface like the shower head. Finally, note that installing a softener water remains a key tip to combat water hardness and therefore the accumulation of limescale in pipes, the shower and household appliances (water heater, washing machine, etc.).
