Rubbing, cleaning, rinsing, dusting, deodorizing… all these tasks can be more tedious when tackling more difficult upholstery fabric. When it comes to cleaning the fabric or microfiber sofa, we do not necessarily know the technique. Between the bad odors impregnated on the cushions and the stains, a lot of cleaning and stain removal work awaits us. Always check if your sofa cover is removable. This way, the covers can be put in the washing machine to remove dirt. The tip below will still be useful for dirt on the trim, however.

What you need:

  • A vacuum cleaner (if possible with a brush attachment for better scrubbing)
  • Baking soda
  • A brush

Steps for cleaning your sofa:

1) First of all, sprinkle your baking soda generously on your sofa. Don’t forget the armrests !

2) Then you need to brush the sofa to better penetrate the powder into the fibers of the textile. This will allow better absorb odors and refresh the fabric.

3) Let it work all night if you can. If you have pets and you’re afraid they’ll get powder everywhere (or simply don’t have the patience to wait that long), leave it on for at least an hour.

4) Finally, vacuum your couch to suck up all the powder.

The use of bicarbonate has several advantages: it deodorizes fibers while cleaning them. Furthermore, this will revive the colors remove discoloration caused by dust.

Some tips: how to clean a stain on your sofa or armchairs?

If the stain is liquid, use absorbent paper. Then to avoid a halouse a cloth soaked in stain remover to dab on the stains from the outside to the inside on the stained area.
