Many smokers looking to quit smoking or at least reduce their tobacco consumption have turned to electronic cigarettes. However, for safe vaping in summer, certain precautions are required. Indeed, heat can strongly affect your equipment and your e-liquids. Whether you are at the beach, hiking or simply relaxing in the sun in your garden, here are the right actions to adopt to protect your equipment and fully enjoy your electronic cigarette during the summer months. You will be able to vape your e-cig in complete safety!
1) Above all, hydrate regularly
Some people sometimes deplore the dry mouth feeling with their vaping equipment. However, with the summer heat, you can become dehydrated more quickly and vaping can contribute to this dehydration. So, to avoid any discomfort, drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated throughout the day. And above all, limit sugary and alcoholic drinks which can increase dehydration.
2) Store your e-liquids correctly
Today, it is very easy to find cheap electronic cigarette liquid. It’s quite simple: the offer is immense! However, this is no reason not to take care of it! Indeed, they are very sensitive to heat and these high temperatures can alter their chemical composition and flavor. To preserve their quality, always store them in a cool, dark place. A cupboard or drawer away from direct light and heat is ideal.
Also avoid temperature variations, as they can also degrade e-liquids. So try to keep them at a constant temperatureideally between 15°C and 25°C.
3) Protect your electronic cigarette from heat
Excessive heat can damage your e-cigarette in several ways. Their lithium-ion battery is particularly sensitive to summer temperatures and heat waves. Prolonged exposure to this excessive heat can therefore cause malfunctions or even risks of overheating and explosion. Additionally, it can cause the plastic components to degrade and taint the e-liquids inside. To avoid these problems, never leave your e-cigarette in a hot car. Temperatures inside a car can easily exceed 40°C in summer, which is enough to damage your batteries.
Also limit direct exposure to the sun as much as possible.. When you are outside, keep your electronic cigarette in the shade, in a carrying case or in a protective pouch, if possible insulated, to protect it from direct sunlight. This silicone or plastic cover will also prevent shocks and dirt. Is the device heating up? In this case, take a break to let the device cool down for a few minutes before continuing. A prolonged overheating could indeed damage your e-cigarettewhich could reduce its lifespan and endanger your safety (risk of explosion).
4) Check your equipment regularly and clean the electronic cigarette well
Who says “summer” also says “heat, humidity, perspiration and sunscreen”, additional challenges for the maintenance of your electronic cigarette. To ensure that your equipment remains in good condition, consider clean your e-cigarette regularlywhich will help maintain optimal performance and eliminate residue. To do this, use a simple, soft, lint-free, slightly damp cloth. Afterwards, dry all parts of your device thoroughly before reassembling them.
Important: Inspect your batteries and look for signs of swelling or leaking. If you notice anything abnormal, replace the battery immediately.
5) Adapt your nicotine dosage with your electronic cigarette
Heat and outdoor activities can potentially change your perception of nicotine. So you might feel the need to adjust your dosage! Use e-liquids with a lower nicotine content if you vape more frequently in summer, to avoid feelings of dizziness, dehydration or nausea as well as headaches and dizziness. In addition, summer is a good time to gradually reduce your nicotine addiction…
6) Be careful with outdoor vaping
If you vape outdoors, be careful of sand and water, especially salt water.
How to react in case of sand? If your vape falls into the sand in summer, remove it immediately and disassemble all components, including the battery, tank and mouthpiece. Use a dry cloth to gently wipe each part. To remove sand, use a small, soft brush or compressed air. Make sure all parts are thoroughly cleaned before reassembling them. If you have a buildable atomizer, unscrew the e-cigarette before cleaning it thoroughly with water and a cotton swab. Above all, do not wet the battery and resistors. If you see damage to the battery, it is always better to replace it…
What if the e-cig falls through? Generally, even if the contact with water only lasts a few seconds, it is better to avoid using the e-cigarette. If you absolutely want to keep it, separate all the components, including the battery, reservoir and nozzle. Wipe each part carefully with a dry cloth. Then let it air dry for at least 24 hours. However, avoid reusing a submerged batteryas this could be dangerous. Replace it with a new one for greater safety.
7) Check local regulations
In summer, it is common to travel. So, find out about local regulations regarding vaping in the places and countries you are visiting. Some regions may indeed have specific restrictions, especially in public spaces as is the case in France (plane, airport, etc.).
Good to know: when traveling by plane with your vaping accessories, leave the tank empty and the airflow open before boarding. The pressure on board will therefore not risk breaking the atomizer.
