7 effective tips for cleaning your dirty stove

Save it for later!

When winter brings with it the last low temperatures which pushed us to use our fireplace or our stove very regularly, our stove is no longer of much use to us for a while, but there is no question of leaving it aside. In fact, it has accumulated a lot of dirt during the winter and it is therefore advisable to give it a good cleaning to find it in good condition in a few months. These maintenance tips will also be suitable before winter to find a clean and efficient stove before the return of cold weather. Here are our best tips for cleaning a stove and for optimal maintenance.

1) We empty the ashes well

Emptying the ash box as well as the combustion chamber is obviously more than necessary when you want to clean the appliance and it is not just a question of cleanliness. In fact, they can end up becoming encrusted and have a detrimental effect on the quality of combustion as well as the durability of your stove. To remove them effectively, opt for a vacuum cleaner reserved for this purpose or for a poker and a brush.

2) Ashes for an impeccable window

The most popular technique for removing soot from glass is to use ashes from wood that you know was very dry at the time of combustion. Roll moistened newspaper into a ball and dab it in the ashes to collect some. Use this to scrub the glass and get amazing results.

3) Vinegar to make the window shine clean

White vinegar is of course ideal in the fight against soot. In fact, it allows it to melt with formidable efficiency. You can take inspiration from the technique previously described by moistening the newspaper with vinegar and soaking it in fine salt. Change the newspaper when it becomes too clogged. You can also sprinkle talcum powder or flour on the dirty areas so that the grease is absorbed and let it dry before dusting and then wiping it with a newspaper soaked in vinegar. Also note that when it comes to natural products that make the window clean, clay stone can also amaze you.

4) We never forget to clean the exterior part of the stove

To avoid rust, you should avoid moistening the exterior part (i.e. you can always gently sand the rusty parts). What you can do is use a vacuum cleaner equipped with its brush attachment, remembering to take care of the floor protection plate for the wood stove. In addition to being aesthetic, the latter is also very useful for protecting a flammable floor and avoiding projections which could ruin your floor. If you notice unsightly scratches, don’t panic! The stoves are most often covered with a spray paint which resists heat perfectly. You will find it where you found your stove. This is applied to a grease-free, non-wet surface.

5) You can clean the walls of the stove with household alcohol

For sparkling clean walls, simply mix water, white vinegar and rubbing alcohol. You can once again use newspaper to clean the dirt after having soaked it generously with this solution.

6) Another cleaning solution: soda crystals

Soda crystals are a great eco-friendly solution for perfectly removing stains from your pan! To use them, wear gloves and prepare a solution of hot water and a cup of crystals in a basin. Soak a sponge with the product obtained and gently rub the walls of your device.

7) And if you’re not a fan of all-natural, use the product for the oven!

The oven is a device that is very clogged with burnt fat. As a result, the cleaners developed to clean it are often second to none when it comes to being useful in the stove or chimney. Just spray a little on, let it sit and wipe away! The only important point to keep in mind: this product must never come into contact with the metal parts or joints of the stove.
