8 simple tips to remember for clothes that last longer

Save it for later!

To have clothes that last, we often advise favoring quality pieces (even if it must be admitted that a high price is not always a guarantee of durability with certain brands where the quality-price ratio clearly leaves something to be desired and can make it seem like a bad joke). But many people increase their purchases in inexpensive stores where the quality is really low-end, which means that we accumulate a number of clothes, but they will quickly tend to become deformed and damaged. , thus forcing us to renew them. Whether the clothes are of quality or not, there is always a way to adopt these few simple actions that will help your clothes last.

1) Sort clothes properly

We know it’s important to avoid color transfer, but we’re often guilty of throwing every item of clothing we can get our hands on into the machine and starting a cycle for the sake of speed. However, clothes sometimes require precise washing temperatures and delicate textiles may not withstand temperatures that are too hot or contact with other clothes. If you don’t want to end up with ridiculously shrunken or misshapen clothes, think about it!

2) We air the clothes

Is your wardrobe doomed to explode because it is full of clothes? For their durability and for them to be fresh and presentable when wearing them, do not hesitate to handle them from time to time and take them out of this chaos to let them breathe, unfold them, shake them and fold… gestures that may seem like nothing, but which will make a difference in the long term.

3) Jeans always washed inside out

Chip Bergh, President of Levi’s, liked to repeat that ” jeans don’t need to go near a washing machine! » Without going that far, it is true that raw jeans must be worn for a certain time before being washed to adapt to the body and we still agree on the fact that excessive washing frequent are as useless as they are harmful! But when the fateful time comes to wash, turn it inside out (especially for dark ones). This will avoid white marks when coming out of the machine and will allow the fabric to keep its color.

4) Close the zippers when washing

The buttons must remain open otherwise they will be damaged, but the closures risk getting caught on clothing and therefore causing a lot of damage!

5) Don’t overload the machines

Too much is too much! In order to limit the machines, we fill them to the brim, which creates a lot of friction between the clothes and wears them out even faster! In addition, it doesn’t allow you to clean them properly and you end up having to start again. If the sorting step is carried out correctly beforehand, you should not have this type of problem.

6) We protect the accessories

Plastic bags (or flannel bags are even better) protect shoes and other handbags from dust and light, which allows them to remain at the top of their quality! It’s not the prettiest thing in the wardrobe, but it’s got what it takes!

7) We dry the clothes in the right place

Dark colors (especially black) can quickly fade in the sun and therefore benefit from staying warm indoors. For this same reason, it is advisable to dry the white outside to make it even more vibrant. So when the weather is nice, take the chance to hang your white sheets, towels and socks outside!

8) We don’t neglect the choice of hanger!

We think with sadness of your pretty sweaters hanging by the shoulders on metal hangers or your leather skirt marked by a clip hanger… horror! Moreover, to prevent the clips from leaving marks, insert tissue paper or paper towel between the clip and the garment. Besides, think about rounder, plumper hangers, or even velvet hangers for delicate clothes, jackets, sweaters and small tops.

Bonus tip: To prevent the drying rack from leaving creases on certain clothes, you can put a pool fry on it!
