Light is crucial in all interiors. It creates an atmosphere and brings a certain comfort: you perhaps prefer it soft to less attack your tired eyes or bright to see clearly and bring clarity to a dark interior. Added to this are the lighting fixtures which differ from one accommodation to another and even in each room and which represent that little touch of style which completes a decoration and dresses the ceiling. How to maintain all these beautiful people? Here are all our cleaning tips for each type of light fixture!

1) Light bulbs

Covered in dust, they provide 50% less light. For cleaning, start by turning everything off and letting it cool. We dust it with a soft cloth and polish it with a sheet of paper towel and a little rubbing alcohol.

This is the perfect opportunity to check the reference to see if you have any in stock in your drawers and not find yourself without light on a Sunday evening when everything is closed (this obviously never happens when the stores are open).

2) A glass lamp

Lukewarm water and detergent on a sponge will be more than enough for you to clean a glass light fixture. To complete everything, the finishes can be done with window product using paper towels or newspaper.

3) The chandelier

Of course, it is difficult to achieve, but it is more economical and healthier not to neglect it. Don’t hesitate to pick it up if possible. Otherwise a solid, reliable stepladder high enough not to have to raise your arms will be necessary. A microfiber cloth will remove dust and the tassels can be washed using rubbing alcohol.

4) The fabric lampshade

Start by blowing off the dust with a hairdryer on the coolest setting. Rubbing or wiping may cause dust to stick to the fibers of the fabric.

For possible stains, a complete wash may leave marks. The best option is to apply Marseille soap to the area to be treated. For persistent stains, opt for a cotton pad soaked with ammonia droplets and dab gently.

5) A metal lamp

Here, we are careful not to use water! A window product is a good alternative for cleaning, but it is important to wipe well to avoid streaks. With a small drop of oil, you can magnify unvarnished metal.

6) A halogen

Despite their fragility, cleaning is a good idea which will give them a better lifespan. Start by unplugging them carefully then carefully dust everything using a microfiber cloth. Avoid putting your hands too much on them so as not to grease them.
