What a joy to start the day with some golden toast on which we put a little butter and/or jam! But this little pleasure can be disrupted in the long run when the crumbs have accumulated in the toaster and they play bad tricks on us once burned: odors and changes in taste are on the agenda (not to mention the appliances which start up). to burn for the most unlucky). The toaster is in fact placed in a corner of the kitchen where we tend to forget it.
The problem is that dirt hides inside and we don’t always realize it. Cleanings are therefore not as frequent as they should be. Often, maintenance involves simply turning the toaster upside down and shaking it so crumbs fall everywhere. Take the bull by the horns and follow these few steps for effective cleaning.
What you need:
- A paintbrush or toothbrush
- Warm soapy water
- Vinegar (for a stainless steel toaster)
- Chiffon
- Optional: vacuum cleaner
The steps:
1) Work with an unplugged and cooled device. Because of crumbs, clean up preferably over a trash can, sink or on newspaper.
2) If your toaster has drawers that collect crumbs, remove them, throw away the crumbs and wash the drawers with soapy water.
3) Whether your toaster has drawers or not, shake it to knock out as many crumbs as possible. Use a toothbrush or a clean paintbrush to remove crumbs lodged in inaccessible places.
NB: You can also use a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle to remove crumbs. If you don’t have a tip, make one from a toilet paper roll (like below)
4) Clean the exterior with a cloth and soapy water, not forgetting the adjustment knobs. If your toaster is stainless steel, clean the exterior with white vinegar to make it shine.
5) Make sure everything is clean and dry to put everything back together and voila! Ready to make good toast again and receive new crumbs 😉
