No wonder: the tools we use to clean can sometimes be the dirtiest of all. And this is particularly the case for sponges which suffer all day long from cleaning every possible surface imaginable. And the more we scrape and clean dirty places, the faster they age. To reduce the budget allocated to sponges a little (admittedly low, but there are no small savings!), try this technique to revive them and keep them longer.
What you need:
- 250 ml of hot water
- 1 tablespoon of percarbonate of soda
- A salad bowl
The steps:
1) Start by heating the water and pouring it into the salad bowl.
2) Then add the percarbonate of soda and stir.
3) Put the sponge in it and let it bathe in it for at least 2 hours.
4) Finish by rinsing with clean water.
Additional Tips: This technique can also be done with coarse salt (here is the detailed explanation), white vinegar or by putting it in the dishwasher after sprinkling it with salt. Finally, a quick microwave can rid it of bacteria as we explained to you in this article.
