5 tips for restoring fluffiness to a flat pillow

Save it for later!

Very often, our bed seems to us like a cozy haven of peace. Slipping into it every evening is one of life’s simple pleasures. However, pillows and cushions can sometimes play spoilsport here. Over time and use, they can end up losing volume and settling. Your beloved pillow ends up much less rounded, not without leaving behind some stiffness in your neck, a bad night’s sleep, a stiff neck or a broken spine! However, restoring plumpness and softness to a flat pillow is not rocket science. With a few simple daily actions and maintenance habits as well as occasional well-conducted cleaning, your deformed and tired nocturnal sidekick will regain all its splendor! Enough to be well positioned to reach the arms of Morpheus…

Important: If a mattress needs to be changed approximately every ten years, a pillow can be kept for approximately two years of good and loyal service before being replaced.

1) Distribute the foam in the pillow daily

Judging by the state of the pillow in the morning, you might have the impression of having engaged in an intense nighttime boxing match… And in the early morning, it continues! Every day, you must not forget to give your pillows energetic pats. This little morning ritual will help get them back into shape while preventing moss or feathers from accumulating too much in certain areas. Distribute the filling well daily will give you a fully inflated pillow once the evening comes and will improve its longevity!

2) A little sunbathing to restore fluffiness to the pillow

During the night, sweat mixes with saliva as do tears when you go to bed with a heavy heart. Also, your cushion may be a little damp and flat the next day. In the long run, this has the effect of softening it. To dry it and give it a more than welcome refresh, consider spreading it flat in the sun from time to time. The accumulated humidity will thus evaporate.

3) A special machine wash for deflated pillows

If we think about cleaning our sheets very regularly, we often tend to forget to do the same for the duvet and pillows. However, these are real nests for mites which also require good cleaning! Through your cleaning, you serve two purposes. You ensure good hygiene of the bedding (and therefore keep a healthy bedroom), but in addition, you will be able to restore fluffiness to your softened pillow. To do this, don’t forget to add a few tennis balls in the drum of the washing machine. This will restore a beautiful appearance to your duffel. Once out of the washing machine, avoid at all costs hang drying which will compact the padding. Favor a dry flatif possible in the sun, and this, after having patted the pillow well to avoid the formation of balls in the filling.

4) Add fluff to a pillow using the dryer

No time for a big wash? Or maybe you are lucky enough to have a tumble dryer to use after washing to speed up drying? In both cases, you should not deprive yourself of using the dryer! It is indeed second to none when it comes to restoring all its plumpness to a slightly aged pillow. When your pillows become too flat, place them in this household appliance, always with a few tennis balls. After a good quarter of an hour at low temperatureyour cushions will be as soft as you want!

5) Choose the right size pillowcases

Choosing quality pillows is one thing. However, also remember to make the right choice regarding pillowcases. Take a pillowcase about two centimeters bigger than your cushion. Indeed, even if we may have the impression that putting a small pillowcase gives thick cushions, this risks compressing the padding in the long run. In the end, these bedding elements may no longer have the same loft! This would be counterproductive to say the least…
