With bright white household appliances, we quickly notice the same problem. White takes on a duller color over time and gives the kitchen a bland look. Your fridge, freezer or radiators are taking on an increasingly yellowish color. This can have several causes, children and their fingerprints, magnets, the accumulation of grease linked to cooking or even nicotine and cigarette smoke. Here are some tips to restore appliances to their former whiteness.
1) Regular maintenance cleaning
Keep appliances clean with a sponge soaked in liquid detergent to which you add a small drop of white vinegar. Carried out regularly, this cleaning will prevent you from ending up with devices that are too yellow.
2) White vinegar for a slightly yellowed appliance.
Soak a cloth with white vinegar and scrub your device with a sponge (with the soft side). Then leave it on for around twenty minutes before rinsing with hot water and a clean dry cloth.
3) Bleach and baking soda for a very yellowed appliance.
Prepare a mixture of 1 cup of bleach with 1/2 cup of baking soda and use 5 cups of hot water to dilute it. With gloves to protect your hands, use a sponge soaked with this mixture and leave to act for around fifteen minutes. Rinse with warm soapy water then with clean water and dry everything.
4) Very concentrated hydrogen peroxide (60° minimum)
Some second-hand appliance retailers use hydrogen peroxide to make the white whiter than white. But it is in pharmacies that we find hydrogen peroxide concentrated enough for it to work well. And of course, don’t forget gloves to protect your hands!
