In many wardrobes (and especially those of certain costumed professionals), the white shirt is an all-purpose basic, easy to match and elegant that we cannot do without. Yes, finally… elegant until ugly marks appear on the sleeves, under the arms, but also more likely at the collar, thus forming what we call “neck black”. This pretty expression designates something less pretty: a yellowish or even darker trace resulting mainly from sebum, a natural secretion of the skin. Perspiration and friction create this deposit which cannot be removed with a simple snap of the fingers (and in fact, even several turns of the machine are not enough). Here’s a technique that works every time!
What you need:
- Degreasing dishwashing detergent
- Oxygenated water
- Baking soda (or sodium, it’s the same)
- A soft brush (a toothbrush for example)
The steps:
1) In a bowl, make a mixture consisting of one part dishwashing liquid, two parts hydrogen peroxide and one part bicarbonate.
2) Pour the mixture onto the stains and scrub with the brush. Put it well on the entire collar to avoid having demarcations between the treated part and the untreated part (which may be darker due to wear and time).
3) Let everything sit for an hour then put it all in the washing machine. After these few steps, the shirt will be like new!
If you want to test this mixture on other fabrics and colored shirts, we advise you to do a test beforehand to avoid unpleasant surprises.
