Maintenance products and equipment to have:

  • A bathtub or basin large enough to accommodate the grid laid flat
  • An old towel
  • Around 200 g laundry or dishwashing product, preferably in powder form (or soda crystals or a combination of white vinegar and coarse salt, for 100% eco-friendly cleaning)
  • A soft sponge and/or toothbrush solely dedicated to this use

How to clean the oven rack? Here is THE very effective technique:

1) Place the towel at the bottom of the bathtub to protect it from scratches and concentrate the active ingredients of the product you will use.

2) Place the oven rack flat on top and cover with hot water that you have previously boiled to help remove the encrusted traces of grease.

3) Mix a generous dose of powder product with hot water to dissolve it properly and pour everything over the grill. Sprinkle a little extra powder alone to have the abrasive side.

4) Leaving it to act will allow the dirt to go away on its own! So let it work a few hours, or even a whole night before rubbing the oven rack with the soft side of the sponge, a microfiber cloth, papier journal and/or a toothbrush.

5) All you have to do is rinse the grills well with soapy water and clean water then wipe dry. The chore is over, all without damaging the stainless steel!

An alternative technique for cleaning the oven rack when you don’t have a bathtub?

Our tip for making the oven tray look like new with basic grandmother’s household products can also be used here to degrease and scrub dirt and make the grills shine. It simply uses baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, possibly with a few drops of dishwashing liquid or black soap for a good degreasing effect on dirt. Toxic bleach, ammonia… no more need for chemicals to strip residue ! Natural products take care of this very well.
