How to get rid of a rust stain on tiles

Save it for later!

A rust stain often appears accidentally on tiles. This can happen after moving furniture or when you carelessly leave metal objects lying around which pose a risk of rusting. Indeed, at first we have no idea that shaving foam can leave a rust stain on the bathtub or that aerosol deodorant can rust and leave marks that are difficult to remove on the sink. In short, metal objects can be a little treacherous… Fortunately, this great natural tip from grandmother is very effective in removing stubborn traces of rust without damaging the floor! And what’s more, this stain remover also works on a rust stain on clothing.

What you need to remove a rust stain from your tiles:

  • Scouring pad
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Coarse salt (failing that, fine salt or bicarbonate can do the trick!)
  • Half a lemon (or lime juice if that’s all you need to combat rust!)

How to remove stains?

1) Using the scouring pad and dish soap, remove as much of the stain as possible. Rinse.

2) Then sprinkle the area to be treated with the coarse salt and use the lemon to rub. The combination of these natural products is unbeatable. Lemon juice is indeed a effective anti-rust to remove metal oxidation stains in no time. Salt helps reinforce its action to clean a difficult stain.

3) Rub until the rusty stain completely disappears. To properly remove small stains, use an abrasive sponge, a wire brush or steel wool. If necessary, repeat the same steps a second time to complete the cleaning. In case of a difficult task, you can also leave on for an hour lemon juice/salt mixture to loosen the area. If you leave it to act before rubbing the stain and rinsing, cleaning will indeed be easier.

4) Then clean the bathtub or floor with your usual method.
