Where there is hard water and no water softener, you are sure to find traces of lime! Of course, the quantities will depend on the quality of the water in your area. However, it is always there in the bathroom, toilet and even the kitchen. In addition to settling everywhere, it also has the knack of becoming embedded and no longer moving until you rub it vigorously to dislodge it. Fortunately, there are household tips to make descaling more easily during regular or basic maintenance. And each surface has its own little secret against limescale! Grandma tells you everything in five targeted economic and ecological tips.

1) To find a pan like new

When a pan is covered in limescale, you can’t afford to scrub like crazy under penalty of damaging its coating. Our favorite technique is simply to reuse potato peelings. Throw them in the pan with a volume of water, then boil for ten minutes. Guaranteed effect to dissolve limescale deposits and make the pan shine! Otherwise, you can use white vinegar to rub the marks with a cloth or to boil for a few minutes. The smell is not pleasant, but it is effective against tartar residue!

2) When the bottom of the toilet is difficult to see

Limestone likes to nestle at the bottom. Thus, the beautiful white of the first days gives way to ugly cloudy traces of hard water. For descaling, the best method is to remove the water at the bottom and heat vinegar which you will pour instead. Then use paper towels or cloths soaked in vinegar for the corners of the bowl. Then leave it to act overnight: you will have the impression that they are like new. For greater effectiveness, you can of course use more concentrated household vinegar.

3) When the shower head is covered with a layer of limescale

Here, we have nothing better to offer you than the famous technique of freezer bag filled with vinegar in which the pommel is bathed. You can leave this descaling agent there for a few hours or overnight. And that’s it! Note that using slightly heated vinegar will reduce the installation time. Indeed, heat increases its efficiency. So it’s perfect for those days when you’re in a hurry to get your housework done. And while it’s soaking, you can do the shower wall with clay stone !

4) For shiny taps free of limescale

You like tips simple and smelling good ? So, do this: cut a lemon into quarters lengthwise. Then take a small slice and directly rub the limestone directly with the pulp. If the marks are more difficult, use half a grapefruit and salt instead for a more powerful and very effective abrasive action. Goodbye dull taps!

5) No more limescale in the kettle

Nothing harms the taste of good tea more than a kettle covered in limescale! And yet, a simple maintenance from time to time allows you to avoid problems and reduce the lifespan of your device. Here it is very easy to remove limescale regularly with water with white vinegar or lemon slices. However, for more thorough cleaning, you can also add two tablespoons of citric acid to a liter of water before turning the kettle on. Then proceed to at least three rinses with clean water by changing it between each rinse and turning on the kettle.
