Gel soaps are an original idea for a change from boring bar soap or that good old shower gel. Although they are found in certain stores, the choice is often limited in terms of smells and it is therefore interesting to make them yourself. These soaps are fun and even more so if you can make them to your liking with essential oils of your choice, fun shapes and colors that you like. They’re a fun incentive for kids who shy away from toilet time and make a great gift for someone who loves taking care of themselves and spending time in the bathroom. Here’s how to prepare them.

Summary

What you need:

  • 230 ml of boiling water
  • 120 ml of shower gel or liquid body soap (in this preparation it was Dr Bronner’s liquid soap based on Castile soap)
  • 2 packets of 7 g of gelatin (or agar-agar)
  • 5 g of salt
  • Essential oil of your choice that does not irritate the skin
  • Silicone molds of the desired shape
  • Optional: jojoba oil (for soft skin), food coloring (to add color), spray with rubbing alcohol (to remove bubbles)

The steps:

1) Pour boiling water into a salad bowl, add salt and mix. Add the gelatin and mix well again.

3) It’s time to add the colors. You can separate your preparation into several bowls if you want to make soaps of several colors.

4) Pour your mixture into the molds.

5) There may be quite a few bubbles on the top of the soap. It’s not a big deal, but for aesthetic purposes, feel free to spray a little rubbing alcohol until there are no more bubbles. Put everything in the fridge so that it hardens well. Be patient then unmold your soap!
