The problem when you tinker or garden with tools from another age is that rust is often present and can quickly leave some marks on clothes without warning! Once the stain has set in, you have to act quickly and carefully if you want to remove it, because it is a type of mark that is unforgiving! And if rustproofing is often recommended for cleaning, you can also get by with what you probably already have at home.
What you need:
- Fresh lemon (small bottles of yellow juice will be of no use here)
- Coarse salt
The steps:
1) On a very difficult stain, it might be helpful to hold the garment over the steam from a pot of boiling water. This will help make the stain easier to remove.
2) Cut the lemon in half and collect a little juice which you will apply to the stain.
3) Dab the fabric so that it is well impregnated then sprinkle with coarse salt.
4) Leave on for 5 hours and rub with half a lemon before rinsing.
5) Let it dry in the sun and enjoy your garment free of this nasty stain!
Alternative methods:
- You can also mix the juice of a lemon with a spoonful of salt and a little water and leave this mixture for 30 minutes before cleaning with Marseille soap or laundry detergent.
- Since it is the citric acid from the lemon that acts as a stain remover, you can use citric acid powder diluted in water (one teaspoon in 250 ml of water). Soak a clean cloth with this solution, dab the stain and rinse without delay.
