Of all the chores, cleaning a dirty oven is among the most tedious. Between the grease residue and burnt food deposits, a simple wipe with a sponge is not enough to restore its former cleanliness. Also, given the scale of the task, we may be tempted to postpone washing until later, which inevitably adds to the already present dirt! Fortunately, you can rely on the right cleaning products to tackle stubborn stains and use effective tips to melt grease. Among all the little techniques that help clean the oven in a single gesture, this tip which does most of the cleaning alone during the night is certainly the most clever, practical and appreciable.
The advantages of this tip for cleaning the oven:
To use it, you will need a saucepan, white vinegar and a night of sleep to rest and dream of your clean oven. We therefore forget the chemical cleaning products that are not very ecological, uneconomical and dangerous for our health, as well as the long hours spent scrubbing. This tip doesn’t require any complicated recipes or effort. And what’s more, it uses much less energy than pyrolysis. Ready to test?
What you need:
-A gratin dish
-A pot of water
-White vinegar and dishwashing liquid
The steps:
1) First of all, preheat the oven to 80°C.
2) While heating, heat water in a saucepan.
3) When the oven is hot, turn it off.
4) Place a gratin dish filled with vinegar on the top plate. Next, add the pan of water to the bottom of the oven, then close the oven.
(You can also boil vinegared water directly and place it in the oven.)
5) You will only have to leave on all night. There is nothing else to do at the moment!
6) The next day, open the oven door to let the vinegar vapors escape. Do not hesitate to open the window if the smell bothers you.
7) Following this, remove the pan of water and collect the vinegar dish. Add dishwashing detergent and use this product to scrub the various elements of the oven (walls, etc.). You can then rinse and dry.
However, we do not recommend mixing with baking soda, as these two products neutralize each other (hence the foam). However, you can sprinkle baking soda directly on the oven and scrub with your sponge soaked in vinegar. It will be more effective this way, because they will have less time to neutralize and you will be able to benefit from the “mechanical” effect of the foam on the dirt!
Why does this tip work so well for cleaning the oven?
Vinegar alone is already very effective in degreasing and removing stains from an oven, especially when it is heated beforehand. Boiling water, but also heating the oven will allow form vinegary steam which will act here over several hours. This will allow soften and melt stuck-on fats in the oven.
Good to know: if you don’t have vinegar, lemon juice will have the same properties and has the advantage of smelling better. Furthermore, you can heat a bowl of water with vinegar or lemon in your microwave to clean it too.
