Like many people, Grandma dreads toilet maintenance more than anything. Unsavory things are done there (although natural) and we sometimes find the worst stains imaginable. Against these infamous stains, it goes without saying that very regular cleaning is essential, but over the years, Mamie has also gleaned a number of tips to lessen the fear of cleaning in this room… secrets that she shares with you joy below!
1) Pumice stone
Thanks to its abrasive power, it allows you to thoroughly scrub the most difficult stains that resist all your best products! You must be careful to moisten the stone and the areas you are going to treat before proceeding so as not to leave scratches. Rub gently then flush the toilet.
2) White vinegar
Yes…him again…! This is not surprising: it must be said that it has no equal when it comes to putting classic bleach away for good, because it has no harmful effects on health and REAL cleaning effectiveness (it doesn’t just whiten the spots, him). It also allows you to disinfect. You can soak a cloth or paper towel with this product and leave it on the stains overnight before rubbing. This tip is perfect for the underside of the toilet seat where dirt can sometimes cling.
3) Oxygenated water
It is excellent for eliminating germs and leaving your toilet spotless. 120 ml poured into the bowl and left to act for 40 minutes will do the job very effectively.
4) Coca-Cola
This should make some people want to drink it! It is common knowledge that coke is neither good for teeth nor for health, but in addition, it makes a good cleaning product… Its ingredients, particularly acidic, can dissolve traces accumulated in the toilet bowl. Just pour a can in and leave for a few hours before scrubbing.
5) Simply hot water
It unclogs sinks and toilets wonderfully! Head to the kitchen: heat a pan on the stove until the first little bubbles appear. Remove from the heat, let cool for one to two minutes and pour directly into the bowl to dislodge the blockage. Due to temperature differences, the bowl may crack. It’s rare, but to avoid it, prefer to do this trick when it’s hot for example.
6) Baby oil
There’s no reason not to have sparkling clean toilets! Once cleaned, you can use baby oil to shine the exterior of the bowl, the handle that flushes the toilet, or the sinks, shower head and faucets.
7) A plastic bottle
We explained to you earlier that you could put a surprising object in the toilet tank to keep it clean and fresh for longer. But to save water, you can instead put a brick or a bottle filled with water (or even stones to weigh it down so that it stays in place)! When you flush the toilet, there will be less water loss.
8) Nail polish
Here, we are in detail, but if the toilet seat is of poor quality and its screws tend to rust quickly, a thin touch of transparent varnish will prevent rust caused by humidity and wear! Your toilet will be perfect from A to Z.
