White clothes are essential in summer. It’s true: white is often so fresh and light that of all the colors available to us, it seems to be the most becoming. Finally, as long as the fabric is white and not dubious yellow or sad gray! And despite all the care taken with these clothes, their immaculate whiteness quickly seems to become a memory. Here’s a simple way to get your clothes white again without damaging them and without harmful bleach: put aspirin in your washing machine! Its salicylic acid will dissolve proteins and other molecules causing stains. Blood or perspiration stains do not resist this powerful stain removal.
What you need:
- 5 aspirin tablets
- Hot water (7.5 liters will be enough)
- A basin
Steps for using aspirin in your washing machine:
1) First, cut your tablets so they dissolve faster.
2) Put them in water and wait for dissolution.
3) Slide your clothes in, ensuring good immersion, and leave for 8 hours or even more simply overnight.
4) The next day, put the clothes in the machine and add the same amount of aspirin directly to the washing machine drum. All you have to do is start a washing program with your usual detergent.
Note that you can put aspirin directly in your washing machine without bathing the clothes in a basin. However, it will be more effective dissolved against stubborn stains in a basin of water for a long soak! This is ideal for a bright white.
Putting aspirin in your washing machine – The result:
Grandma’s little extrae : Blood stains can be removed from fabric using the same technique and left for 2 hours. However, prefer to use cold water to remove a type stain. In fact, hot water is not recommended on blood stains, because it contains proteins which could group together on contact with water. This therefore has the effect of freezing the stain in the fibers of the clothing. This should therefore be avoided unless you want to make the stain more difficult to remove of course!
Other products to whiten your whites if you’re running out of aspirin: soda crystals, hydrogen peroxide (peroxide), lemon juice, baking powder and sodium percarbonate. And for washing, think about detergent with Marseille soap which preserves the white of household linen and which is very effective in removing stains. White vinegar and baking soda are not not whitening. However, they preserve the colors and prevent them from becoming dull by countering the effects of limescale. Use vinegar as a softener or in the rinse water OR baking soda in the drum and in the laundry detergent. Then dry in the sun!
