Wooden flooring is often appreciated for its beauty and character, but hated for its difficulty in maintenance! Unfortunately, big box products aren’t cheap. In addition, they often have a very chemical smell that is not very pleasant. However, finding a good natural alternative is not that easy. Some recipes will clean without giving the beautiful shiny appearance that we all love and others will damage certain woods. In addition, certain hazardous recipes can sometimes leave a greasy residue that is difficult to dry. Fortunately, there are some good recipes and this is definitely one of them. (In any case, having tested plenty of them which gave more or less good results, this one is among the best of the best.)
What you need:
- 230 ml of water
- A bag of black tea
- 4 liters of hot water
- 15 ml d’huile d’olive
- 120 ml of vinegar
The steps:
1) First of all, we take care of the tea! Boil your water then steep your black tea bag. Then give everything a little time to cool. Once it’s the same temperature as the room, it’s good to go.
2) Next, get down to business by filling your bucket with water.
3) Third step, add the missing ingredients, namely: previously brewed tea, olive oil and vinegar.
4) Mix and wash the floor with your usual mop.
5) Finally, wipe with a cloth if you think the floor is a bit too “slippery”.
Vinegar for wooden floors: a disturbing ingredient?
The only possible limit to the use of this product is vinegar. Indeed, for parquet floors, we talk more in terms of finishes rather than in terms of type of wood. However, even if most are very resistant to many products that could be applied to them, a tiny part may not be able to withstand the acidity of this ingredient. However, it is here well diluted and acts as a cleaning agent which does not leave marks and does not attack ! As a precaution, we still advise you not to use this product on untreated or waxed wood.
